Significant
advantages

Rainwater
management

In conjunction with green infrastructure and the development of low-impact rainwater management techniques, vegetated systems help reduce excessive rainwater discharge through evapotranspiration, longer periods of infiltration, or capture and reuse. They also help to filter and purify rainwater by removing suspended solids and other pollutants.

Heat island
effect mitigation

Typically used on flat and sometimes sloping roofs, green roofs significantly reduce roof temperatures during the summer months. The LEED Reference Guide identifies green roofs as a means of mitigating the urban heat island effect.

Water efficiency and landscaping

Compared with regular plants, our system requires less than 50% of the usual irrigation, and in some climates, it can thrive with little or no supplementary irrigation. What’s more, the growing medium acts like a sponge to collect rainwater, nourish vegetation, filter excess water and contribute to its evaporation. During heavy rainfall, the excess water will be channelled through our roof system for reuse, for example to water a garden or landscaped areas at ground level. Efficient use of collected water reduces the total amount of potable water needed to irrigate the site.

Materials
fast-renewing

Most of the plants used are cultivated plants that can be harvested several times, such as bamboo. In other words, the plant material can be harvested without disturbing the soil, and there’s no need to replant the original vegetation. This reduces carbon and fertilizer levels and protects farmland from erosion.

Recycled
contents

The modules for our green roofs are made from 100% recycled polypropylene (100% post-industrial), and the growing medium contains recycled materials such as compost or reclaimed mineral aggregates. Using recycled plastic and reclaimed components helps make good use of resources that might otherwise end up in a landfill.

Financial
savings

In general, green roofs considerably extend the lifespan of a roof.
